Divani - the sofa company
Our Company
Divani Mail Order was founded in 1993 with the intention of designing and producing stylish, contemporary sofas at a sensible price. Divani is and always has been a family business owned and managed by two brothers, Lloyd Ridgwell (Chief Executive) and Tom Ridgwell (Marketing Director) along with several non-family directors. Currently we employ over 120 people, many of whom have been with us since the very start.
All Divani sofas are designed in-house by our Design & Development Team and all sofa ranges are unique to Divani. Our aim is twofold: to provide an eclectic range of contemporary sofas and chairs which will not just look good today but also stand the test of time; and, secondly, to cut out the middleman and offer our products at the lowest possible prices, together with a fast and efficient delivery service. All our furniture is made to order and delivered direct to your home within four weeks.
We strive to maintain the core principles of any good family business; a commitment to producing excellent quality combined with a friendly and personal service. To this end we continue to manufacture all our furniture at our factory in Rhymney, South Wales rather than importing inferior products from abroad. Equally, we refuse to outsource our Call Centre which remains firmly in-house. We also use our own fleet of vehicles and delivery teams, thereby ensuring the highest standards of quality and service possible.
Quality
Divani has been manufacturing fine quality sofas and chairs since 1993. All our furniture is manufactured at our factory in Rhymney, South Wales by our expert team of craftsmen. Unlike the majority of furniture sold in the UK today we do not supply cheap imported furniture but rather insist on continuing to manufacture in the UK, thereby ensuring the highest standard of quality control. By manufacturing in-house we maintain a strict control over parts and workmanship and also minimise potential transport damage and cost. Our frames are made from the finest quality hardwoods such as beech or birch which are sourced from sustainable non tropical forests. We use European birch or beech in all stress bearing areas of the frame.
All our models are stringently prototyped and tested to pass all relevant British Standards for General Domestic Use, and comply with current Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations. In addition, all fabrics and interiors are painstakingly sourced with durability and comfort in mind, and pass twelve independent British Standard tests (BS 2543) before we authorise them for sale.
All our products are guaranteed against any defect in materials or workmanship for two years from the date of delivery.
Safety
All our range is independently tested and stringently prototyped before production commences, and passes all British Standards for General Domestic Use and furniture regulations for Fire and Safety including the current Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations
Price
With sofas at these prices you would be forgiven for questioning the quality of our furniture. Our prices are at least 50% lower than the equivalent high street prices of similar standard furniture. We can offer such low prices on quality furniture for a number of reasons. Firstly, and most importantly, because we manufacture all our products and deliver direct to the customer we bypass the retailer and his associated profit margins and overheads. Unlike other sofa websites we are not simply an online shop selling furniture manufactured by others. We are the manufacturer so when you buy from Divani you buy direct. There are no middlemen making a profit between you the customer and us the manufacturer. Put simply, our prices are trade prices direct from the manufacturer. Also, because we have grown to become the largest direct supplier of upholstery in the UK we have substantial buying power and can source our materials at bulk discounts which in turn allows us to reduce our selling price.
Your Double Guarantee
1. Three weeks from the day of delivery to change your mind.
If, when your furniture arrives, and for whatever reason it is not what you expected, we will remove it and refund your money. Alternatively you can exchange to a different model, colour or size. Please inform us in writing of your decision to return or exchange your furniture within 21 days and we will organise a collection date. A collection charge of up to £60 will be applied.
2. Two year guarantee.
Our guarantee covers any defect in manufacture and materials, allowing for fair wear and tear. In the unlikely event of a claim, we will collect, repair and return the furniture to you entirely free of charge.
Both our guarantees are offered in addition to your statutory rights which remain unaffected. Our full terms and conditions are available by clicking the link below.
Delivery
We deliver direct from our South Wales factory to any address on the UK mainland using our fleet of liveried 7.5 tonne lorries. All furniture deliveries are undertaken by a two man delivery team who will deliver your new furniture to the room of your choice. Should you wish they will remove all packaging and allow you to inspect your new upholstery before you sign for receipt of your new furniture. Our despatch department will contact you at least one week before your delivery to inform you of the anticipated dates. The delivery team will then contact you to arrange a three hour delivery window.
We charge a maximum of £60 for delivery within the UK Mainland. Please note delivery to remote Scottish regions may incur an additional delivery charge. Please telephone for details.
The current approximate delivery time is 4 weeks.
Helping the Environment
By producing all our furniture in Britain and sourcing our materials and parts from local suppliers where possible, Divani furniture has a lower carbon footprint that imported furniture sold by the majority of retailers. Unfortunately much of the furniture sold in Britain has a high carbon footprint as it has been transported thousands of miles from the country of manufacture. At Divani, things couldn't be more different. Because we manufacture in Britain and deliver direct to the customer and not via warehouses or distribution centres, we reduce our fuel usage and consequent environmental impact.
Where possible we source locally manufactured parts and materials thereby reducing the carbon footprint of our furniture. All our hardwood is sourced from sustainable European forests. We do not source wood from tropical rainforest areas or use rare or endangered varieties.
Much of the waste generated at the factory in producing your furniture is separated for recycling. We are committed to reducing the environmental impact and carbon footprint of our manufacturing process.
Call Centre
As well as continuing to manufacture in the UK we have decided not to outsource our Call Centre abroad. Our Call Centre is based at our Crumlin factory in South Wales so the staff are in constant communication with our manufacturing arm and, as a result, very well informed about our products and services. They are also very friendly! Should you have any queries we would be delighted to hear from you. Being a family business we believe in the old-fashioned principles of friendly efficient service and we pride ourselves on providing a pleasant experience from start to finish.
